The Alvin S. Teirstein, MD, Professorship in Pulmonary Medicine: A Son’s Tribute
Alvin S. Teirstein, MD, was one of the giants in the history of Mount Sinai. Until his death in 2011 at the age of 83, Dr. Teirstein was a world-renowned expert in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with sarcoidosis. He served thousands of patients with distinction and taught generations of future leaders in pulmonary medicine across a career at Mount Sinai that spanned nearly 60 years, including 27 years as Chief of what is now the Catherine and Henry Gaisman Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.
