In the guest essay that follows, the Foundation reflects on the purpose behind its support and the promise of investing in better care for women at every stage of life.

For most of his life, Seth Deutsch projected an outward image of ambition, confidence, and strength. “I built companies, led teams, raised capital, and accumulated the external markers of success,” he said. Eventually, as he put it, he “hit a wall.” Seth, who lives with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (cPTSD), didn’t understand something that had happened to him when he was young—or how those psychic wounds had stayed with him into adulthood.
